JAKARTA OpenAI's Artificial Intelligence (AI) model and Google won a gold medal at the International Mathematics Olympics (IMO) which was held this year.
This victory shows that the AI system has developed rapidly and both are able to answer with good reasoning. It also shows that both OpenAI and Google's AI models are competing fiercely.
This is not the first victory for Google. Last year, the company won a silver medal with a formal system or required human-related translation into a format that can be read by machines.
However, this year the competition is a little different. Neither OpenAI nor Google, both of them participated in the competition with an informal system. This means that the AI model does not require translation and is able to digest questions automatically.
Launching from TechCrunch, the two companies claimed that their AI model answered five of the six questions correctly, surpassing the score of most high school students and Google AI models last year.

Unfortunately, this year's victory sparked debate. Google questions how OpenAI will run and announce its IMO performance to win a gold medal.
In fact, Google DeepMind CEO and researcher criticized OpenAI's announcement of achievements after it was announced on social media. According to them, OpenAI's gold medal announcement was too early because the AI model was not officially evaluated by the IMO.
Thang Luong, Senior Google DeepMind researcher and IMO Project Leader, stated that Google is still waiting to announce their results. This is done in honor of the students participating in the competition.
