JAKARTA - Google is testing a new feature in the Gemini app that allows users to access Gemini Live by simply sliding to the left or right, without the need to tap on an additional button. This feature is designed to make the transition from regular text chat mode to live conversation experience faster and more intuitive.

So far, to use Gemini Live which allows real-time conversations even by sharing videos or phone screens, users must press certain buttons, long-press power buttons, or swipes from the screen angle. But now, a small fraction of users are starting to report the presence of a sliding gesture to the left/right that immediately activates the Live mode from the main view of the app.

The move is part of a broader interface (UI) update on the Gemini app, which also brings a navigation drag feature (shear navigation panel from the left side) into the app.

This drama displays a list of Gems (user-made custom experiences) as well as a history of last conversations, and can now be accessed via a hamburger icon in the upper corner. On a large foldable tablet or phone, this drift appears by default due to a wider screen size.

Here are some of the changes that are starting to appear in the Gemini app:

Left/right swipe to move between chat text and Gemini Live.

New Navigation drawer on the left side of the screen.

The UI display is increasingly resembling a web version.

Although only one report has emerged so far, this feature has also been detected in the application code by an APK teaser expert named AssembleDebug a few months ago. This indicates that Google is indeed considering it seriously.

However, there is no visual indicator in the app to show that this swipe feature is available, so it's likely to be difficult for ordinary users to find something Google might fix if this feature is rolled out widely.

If it is released globally, this feature will make Gemini Live's access much faster and seamless, strengthening Google Gemini's position as Assistant's successor to smarter and more flexible. However, like other experimental features, we have to wait for official confirmation from Google to ensure its full launch.
