JAKARTA The National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) partners with Google in maintaining cultural heritage. Through this partnership, the Google Arts and Culture platform is used to store prehistoric images.
Head of BRIN Laksana Tri Handoko said that they are trying to bring benefits to the community in observing cultural heritage in Indonesia. Therefore, they present a Digital Platform Image of Cadas Prehistoric Indonesia.
Built on the Google Arts and Culture platform, people can see this cultural heritage in the form of rock anytime and anywhere. This digital platform also shows that BRIN not only collects cultural heritage, but also explores its knowledge.
"This benefit may not always have to be financial. The cultural heritage displayed on Google Arts & Culture alone may make people (society) proud. With that pride, people will try to maintain it," Handoko said, quoted on Wednesday, June 4.
Handoko added that the launch of this platform is just the starting point of governance, conservation, preservation, and utilization of cultural heritage. BRIN also hopes to continue partnering with Google in exploring cultural wealth in Indonesia.
"There are still many in Indonesia that can be explored, introduced, at least through Google we can introduce the wealth, cultural heritage, civilization of the Indonesian nation and state," said Handoko.

Google also agrees with the use of digital media as an effort to preserve long-term culture. According to Google Indonesia Government Relations and Public Policy Arianne Santoso, preservation in this way can also make it easier for the community.
"We recognize that this extraordinary wealth of cultural heritage should be accessible to more people," said Arianne. "This technology has an extraordinary role."
Arianne also explained that the entire cultural heritage converted into digital form, including prehistoric rock, is displayed in high resolutions. That way, the digital version of the display will look the same as the original version.
