JAKARTA Microsoft made an important announcement on June 2, 2025. Windows-based computer users can now remove Microsoft's default app store and Edge browser.

This change was launched specifically for users in the European Union (EU), in accordance with the Digital Markets Act (DMA). Users can remove Microsoft Store installation from the Start or Settings view, just like any other app.

"Installed and distributed applications from Microsoft Store will continue to get updates even though Microsoft Store is removed from installation so that the app remains safe and up-to-date," Microsoft said. "You can reinstall (the app store)."

Next, users can also replace Microsoft Edge with Chrome or even Firefox as the default browser. Microsoft will not force its users to make Edge the default browser and this app will no longer open automatically.

In addition, users can also remove Edge from their devices. This will benefit Chrome users or other browsers who want to reduce device loads. Removing Edge will reduce computer internal storage.

"When Microsoft Edge is removed, another Microsoft app won't ask you to reinstall it unless PWA distributed on Microsoft Store uses Microsoft Edge technology," Microsoft explained.

This change is available in Edge update version 137.0.3296.52. Users can delete Microsoft Store and Edge or change default browser settings during their use of Windows 10 and Windows 11 versions in Europe.
