Nike Lays Off Several Employees In The Technology Division

JAKARTA - Nike Inc., a well-known sports clothing retailer from the United States, has terminated employment (PHK) for a number of employees in the technology division. The information was conveyed by a company representative to the media on Tuesday, May 20.

According to an official statement delivered via email, Nike will transfer part of the work in the technology division to third-party vendors. This change in structure is said to have been announced to employees since last week.

However, Nike did not specify the number of employees affected by this layoff. To date, it is not known exactly how many employees work in the company's technology division. The news about this restructuring step was first reported by Bloomberg News on the same day.

This step was taken amid the challenges Nike is facing. In March 2025, the Air Jordan shoe maker expects a bigger fourth-quarter revenue decline than analysts predict, showing caution amid their efforts to regain interest in consumers who are now more interested in trendy brands.

As part of efforts to improve, the new Nike CEO, Elliott Hill, also made a reshuffle of the senior leadership team earlier this month. Hill himself took office in October 2024, with the mission of leading the transformation and restoring the company's competitiveness in creating innovative shoe designs.
