JAKARTA - SoundCloud CEO Elia Seton insists that the company does not use artist content to train artificial intelligence (AI) models, music creation, or for large language models.

This statement came after concerns and confusion among the artist community over the renewal of SoundCloud's Terms of Use which was carried out in February 2024, particularly regarding the use of content by AI technology.

Elia also stated that currently SoundCloud does not create any generating AI tools or models. They also don't allow third parties to take or use SoundCloud artist content to train anyone's AI model.

He revealed that the AI they use is to improve services to artists and fans, including supporting smarter recommendations, searches, playlists, content tagging, and tools that help prevent fraud.

Our AI use is focused on discovery helping fans find new music and helping artists thrive, starting with their first fans, added Elia.

Three years ago, SoundCloud also acquired Musiio, to expand its AI capabilities and machine learning, in order to improve services for creators with listeners, encourage the discovery of music, and help rights holders identify what's to come.

"Overall, we use AI to identify new talents, personalize platform experiences, and support customer service in real-time, all designed to support human artists and engage true fans," he said.
