Trump Media Plans Mergers And Acquires For Business Diversification

JAKARTA The social media company owned by former US President Donald Trump, Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG), announced plans to merge and acquire (M&A) as part of a diversified strategy to new sectors such as financial services.

In a letter to shareholders, TMTG CEO Devin Nunes stated that the company "continues to hunt down high-quality assets" to expand its business reach. TMTG currently operates a Truth Social social media platform and streaming platform, but has ambitions to become the holding company that oversees various other products and services.

In April, the company revealed it had reached a binding agreement to launch various retail investment products, including crypto assets. This move has drawn the attention of the government's ethical regulatory agency due to potential conflicts of interest that may arise.

As of the end of the first quarter of 2025, Trump Media had total cash, cash equivalents, and short-term investments worth US$759 million (Rp12.5 trillion), while total liabilities were recorded at US$27.2 million (Rp450.1 billion).

"With this level of liquidity, as well as low operational costs and cash burning rates, Trump Media has the full capability to carry out its expansion plans," the company said in a statement. The plan includes improvements to existing platforms, diversification to the financial technology sector (fintech) and financial services, as well as carrying out corporate actions such as mergers and acquisitions.

In a three-month period ending March 31st, Trump Media's net income increased more than 6% to $8.2 million, while his net loss shrank to 31.7 million US dollars.

Even so, Trump Media's stock movement remains stable in trading after the stock exchange hours.

The move marks Donald Trump's ambition and his team to expand their influence beyond the realm of social media and enter the financial industry, with a potential significant impact on the future landscape of the US technology and political business.
