JAKARTA - Director General of Digital Infrastructure of the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Kemkomdigi) Wayan Toni Supriyanto said the Ministry of Communication and Trade is focused on three aspects to be able to expand the scope of 5G connectivity in Indonesia.

The three aspects consist of radio frequency, infrastructure, and regulations that are expected to increase the coverage of 5G connectivity even more broadly.

"From the aspect of radio frequency spectrum, four frequency bands will be auctioned, in which one frequency band is fixed broadband based on 5G, while the remaining three frequency bands are for 5G broadband mobile," Wayan told ANTARA, Thursday.

The auction of the radio frequency spectrum is scheduled to take place in 2025 with four frequency bands in question, namely the 1.4GHz band for the fixed broadband service, while the remaining three are 700 MHz, 2.6 GHz, and 26 GHz for cellular services.

With the release of the four frequency spectra, it is hoped that 5G connectivity can be evener after the auction is over and increase its coverage in Indonesia.

The second aspect prepared is regulation. This will also be related to the frequency spectrum auction that will be conducted, especially for cellular telecommunications operators.

One of the policies developed is related to incentives which are expected to help telecommunications operators develop 5G networks more optimally.

"Incentive policies are also expected in the not too distant future to be established immediately, in order to provide more financing space for cellular operators so that they are able to deploy a massive 5G network," said Wayan.

Another policy prepared by the Ministry of Communication and Digi is the establishment of a roadmap or roadmap of holistic digital infrastructure for the long term covering various sides from upstream to downstream.

Finally, the aspect of the Ministry of Communication and Trade's attention in equalizing 5G in Indonesia is to focus on digital infrastructure development.

According to Wayan, in this aspect, the government has boosted the deployment of an optical fiber network (FO) or also known as a backbone network that has the best stability.
