Ads Coming Soon To Threads: Meta Expands Reach To More Than 30 Countries

JAKARTA Meta will eventually bring ads to Threads, a social media platform originally launched without commercial disruption. After trials in the United States and Japan earlier this year, Meta has now announced that advertising will begin rolling out in more than 30 countries globally.

When Threads launched in 2023, Meta deliberately keeps the platform ad-free. The goal is most likely to build a strong user base before starting to monetize. But now, the ad-free experience is officially over.

Starting today, a small number of advertisers will test ads on Threads to help expand their campaign range. Businesses can expand their existing Meta ad campaign to Threads by simply checking the box in Ads Manager," Meta said.

The move allows businesses to reach a wider audience without the need to create new ad material, as the Threads ad integration system runs automatically through the Meta ecosystem.

Meta has been relying on advertising revenue as its main source of finance. In fact, more than half of Meta's current advertising revenue comes from Instagram. So, it's no wonder that Threads, which is now growing, is also starting to monetize.

Threads Travel Since Launch

Threads launched in response to internal Twitter/X chaos after being acquired by Elon Musk. Meta sees an opportunity to offer a more stable and user-friendly alternative. Although Threads was labeled as a " Twitter clone", the platform slowly builds its own identity with different communities and dynamics.

Apart from Threads, several other alternatives have also emerged, such as Mastodon and BlueSky, but no one has really been able to match Twitter's influence completely.

For Threads users, this means:

- Ads are starting to appear on feeds as the number of advertisers increases.

- The experience of browsing, which was previously clean from promotional content, has begun to change.

- Threads is now a complete part of the Meta advertising ecosystem, along with Facebook and Instagram.
