JAKARTA - Meta Platforms announced on Wednesday April 23 that it is expanding access to its artificial intelligence assistant, Meta AI, on Ray-Ban smart glasses to seven additional European countries.

Now, users in Germany, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, and Finland can interact with Meta AI via voice commands to get answers to various general questions.

The launch of Meta AI in Europe was originally announced in June 2024, but was delayed due to regulator concerns regarding data and privacy protection. This AI technology was released in the United States in 2023.

Meta states that this expansion also includes a live translation feature that will be widely released in various markets.

Additionally, starting next week in supporting EU countries, users will be able to use a new feature that will allow them to directly ask Meta AI about objects they are looking at and receive a real-time response.

This major update for the Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses was announced in December 2024, which includes AI-based video capabilities and language translation in person. These features were first introduced at the Meta Connect annual conference in September last year.

The move is part of Meta's strategy to strengthen their position in the wearable technology sector and expand the reach of AI technology, amid the company's massive investment in AI infrastructure.
