JAKARTA - Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Meutya Hafid invites parents to postpone the provision of access to social media to minors.

"Let's keep our children literate, but at the same time, postpone their access to social media according to the level of risk that we will evaluate," said Meutya, who is also the Deputy of the Golkar Party.

This invitation is in line with Government Regulation Number 17 of 2025 concerning Governance of Electronic System Implementation in Child Protection (PP Tunas) which has been in effect since March 28, 2025.

Meutya also emphasized that the principle of delaying access to social media for children is based on input from psychologists and data showing that the use of digital platforms requires adequate mental and literacy readiness.

Many studies have proven that social media requires readiness. As adults alone, we need to prepare mentally when interacting with unknown people, especially children who are vulnerable to harassment or degrading content," he explained.

Meutya also added, where PP Tunas is the government's effort to protect the younger generation from the dangers of negative content in the digital space.

He realized that the speed with which technology develops makes surveillance increasingly difficult, so preventive measures such as limiting access to social media are considered important.

Komdigi is also committed to continuing to disseminate information regarding PP Tunas and increasing digital literacy, in order to protect children from cyber dangers.

With this socialization, it is hoped that parents and educators can better monitor the use of social media by children, reduce the risk of exposure to harmful content, and form a digitally capable generation.
