Shopify CEO Requires Employees To Use AI For Team Performance Support

JAKARTA - Shopify CEO Tobias Lötke officially requires all employees to master and use artificial intelligence (AI) in their daily work.

In an internal memo shared on his X account, Tobi mentioned that AI will be a basic expectation' in Shopify's environment. He emphasized that this change was not just following a trend, but based on a real experience.

"Initially, the call to try it was the right move, but it was too optional. Now I want to change it. We learned that unlike most tools, AI acts as a multiplier of capabilities," Tobi wrote.

According to him, with the extraordinary quality of employees, coupled with the use of AI, either companies or employees can provide 10 times the results from what was previously considered impossible.

With this change, Shopify has now made AI's mastery one of the parameters in the employee's performance evaluation. Each team is also required to include AI in the initial phase of the project prototype.

In fact, before submitting additional personnel, the team is obliged to explain why the AI cannot do the work first.

Once again, Tobi emphasized that this rule applies to everyone in the company, without exception. Including him.

"AI will completely change Shopify, our work, and our lives going forward. We are not just sitting in the front seat, but we are in the middle of a company that is studying and pushing for mutual progress," he said.

"We are trying to find out what the form of entrepreneurship in the world that already has AI is everywhere. I want Shopify to be the best in answering it," concluded Tobi.
