JAKARTA - SpaceX founder Elon Musk announced on Friday March 14 that the Starship spacecraft is scheduled to depart for Mars by the end of next year. The spacecraft will carry Tesla's humanoid robot Optimus.
In his upload on platform X, Musk hinted that the human landing on Mars could begin at the earliest in 2029. However, he expects 2031 to be a more realistic possibility if the initial mission goes smoothly.
Previously, Musk had told investors in a conference call in April 2024 that he hoped Optimus would be able to carry out his duties at the factory by the end of 2024.

In November 2024, Reuters also reported that under the leadership of US President Donald Trump, Musk's ambition to send humans to Mars is likely to be a greater national priority. This is expected to bring major changes to NASA's lunar exploration program and provide significant impetus to SpaceX.
But Trump himself, last week stated that the landing on Mars was an extraordinary idea but not a priority.
Starship is a key element in SpaceX's future satellite launch business. Currently, the company dominates the sector with a partially reusable Falcon 9 rocket. In addition, Starship is also the mainstay in Musk's dream of making Mars a human colony in the future.
