Apple Plans To Invest IDR 8.1 Quadrillion In The US, Adds 20,000 R&D Jobs In Four Years

JAKARTA - Apple announced an investment plan of 500 billion US dollars (IDR 8.1 quadrillion) in the United States in the next four years. This investment includes the construction of a large plant in Texas for artificial intelligence (AI) servers and the addition of around 20,000 jobs in the research and development (R&D) sector.

This investment includes purchases from US suppliers to film production and TV shows for Apple TV+ services. However, Apple did not specify how much of that figure was already included in spending plans with its US supplier network, such as Corning, which produces iPhone glass in Kentucky.

This step was taken after a report on the meeting of Apple CEO Tim Cook with US President Donald Trump last week. Many Apple products assembled in China are at risk of being subject to Trump's 10% tariff this month, although the company has received several tariff exemptions in the previous administration.

Apple also announced cooperation with Foxconn to build a 250,000-square-foot facility in Houston to assemble servers to be used for Apple Intelligence, a series of AI features supporting various tasks such as email preparation. Currently, the server is still being produced outside the US.

As part of this investment, Apple will increase the Advanced Manufacturing Fund from 5 billion to 10 billion US dollars, with some of these funds being used to support advanced silicon production at the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co (TSMC) plant in Arizona. Apple has previously started producing its own design chips at the plant.

In addition, Apple will open a manufacturing academy in Michigan that will provide free courses for small and medium enterprises in project management and optimization of the production process, in collaboration with Apple engineers and local university staff.

Apple shares fell slightly in pre-market trading following this announcement. Meanwhile, Trump in a post on Truth Social appreciated Apple's move, calling it proof of the company's trust in his government.
