JAKARTA - Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs, Nezar Patria, stated that the Indonesian government volunteered to host the AI Global South Forum organized by UNESCO.

Nezar stated that this proposal was motivated by Indonesia, which succeeded in becoming the first country in Southeast Asia to successfully complete the UNESCO Readiness Assessment Methodology (RAM).

"This success is proof of Indonesia's commitment to developing an artificial intelligence (AI) ecosystem that is responsible and ethical," said Nezar at a meeting with UNESCO Assistant Director General for Social and Humanities Gabriela Ramos at the UNESCO Office, Paris France.

The AI Global South Forum is a forum created to be a vehicle for the development and utilization of artificial intelligence (AI) technology for developing countries in Asia, Africa, and the South Pacific.

He also emphasized that the collaboration between Indonesia and UNESCO will strengthen Indonesia's position as a key player in the development of global AI. Indonesia is also committed to contributing to building global AI governance.

Meanwhile, Gabriela Ramos welcomed Indonesia's desire to host the AI Global South Forum next year. He encouraged Indonesia to immediately prepare itself.

"We strongly support Indonesia's initiative to host the AI Global South Forum. This is a good opportunity for Indonesia to show its role as a key player in global AI development," he said.

Gabriela Ramos expressed his appreciation for Indonesia's achievements and hopes that Indonesia can become an example for other countries. He even invited Indonesian AI experts to share knowledge and support other countries in the preparation of RAM.

"Indonesia has shown extraordinary leadership in AI development. We hope that Indonesia can continue to contribute and share experiences with other countries," he said.
