JAKARTA James Stephen 'Jimmy' Donaldson, a US YouTuber known as MrBeast, is part of a group that wants to buy TikTok with an offer of tens of billions of dollars.
MrBeast has confirmed plans for this purchase some time ago. On January 13, 2025, before TikTok closed for a day, MrBeast said he would buy TikTok so the platform is not banned and remains operating in the US.
More than a week later, MrBeast said he was contacted by a number of leading investors to work with. MrBeast agreed to join the group so they could buy TikTok assets in the US.
"The leading groups who all bid credible on TikTok have contacted us to help them, I am happy to be able to partner/realize this. Big things are being prepared," MrBeast said via his personal X account.

The group consists of Employer.com Founder Jesse Tinsley, Roblox Founder and CEO David Baszucki, as well as CEO of Anchorage Digital, crypto platform, Nathan McCauley.
According to a Bloomberg report, the nominal to be offered is US$25 billion (Rp408.8 trillion). However, MrBeast and other investors have only raised 20 billion US dollars (Rp327 trillion).
Meanwhile, Tinsley stated that the offer from his group was much bigger than any other potential group that wanted to buy TikTok. Apparently, Tinsley referred to Project Liberty initiated by tonight's Frank McCort and Kevin O'Leary.
Although this purchase plan is very mature, they have not established communication with ByteDance. Tinsley said they had contacted the TikTok's parent company, but they had not provided a reply.
"We have not received a response (from ByteDance). They did not give a response at all," said Tinsley, quoted from Bloomberg on Saturday, February 1, 2025.
