JAKARTA - The Press Council officially launched guidelines related to the use of artificial intelligence (Al) in the process of producing journalistic works.

Chairman of the Press Council, Ninik Rahayu, revealed that the process of drafting these guidelines himself had been carried out since April 2024, and formed a task force consisting of internal representatives, constituent representatives and the formulating team.

In addition, he admitted, the Press Council also listened to input from several media and constituents who had implemented the use of AI in their journalistic works, and considered input from experts in their fields in the process of drafting this guideline.

Ninik emphasized that the presence of this guideline is to ensure that Al's technology is used ethically, transparently, and does not sacrifice journalistic integrity amid rapid technological advances.

In addition, this guideline has also undergone public trials involving stakeholders, including from the Supreme Court.

"This guideline has been awaited by all members of the press. Hopefully, through this guideline, the use of artificial intelligence technology in the realm of journalism can later help accelerate the journalistic process and improve work efficiency," said Ninik in his official broadcast on Friday, January 24.

Nevertheless, even though there are AI guidelines, Ninik emphasized, strict control and ethical principles are still needed so that Al does not damage journalistic fundamental values, such as accuracy, justice, and independence.
