JAXA And ESA Encourage Long-Term Partnerships In Space Exploration Missions

The leaders of JAXA and ESA signed the latest contract (doc. JAXA).

JAKARTA The Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) and the European Space Agency (ESA) have been working together for a long time. However, these two institutions agreed to form partnerships in a larger aspect.

In JAXA's latest report, it was revealed that the two space agencies had signed the latest partnership on November 20, 2024. The signing of this contract was carried out when ESA visited Japan.

The parties who signed the latest partnership contract were JAXA President Hiroshi Yamamama and ESA Director General Josef Aschbacher. Through this latest collaboration, the leaders of the institution emphasized that the expansion of bilateral cooperation is urgently needed.

JAXA and ESA will continue to work together on future exploration and research missions. There were several major missions discussed by the two institutions after the signing ceremony was held.

The two agreed to accelerate the study of potential cooperation for ESA's Fast Apophis Mission which is part of the Space Safety Project (RAMSES). Through this mission, ESA will explore the asteroid Apophis which is expected to approach Earth on April 13, 2029.

JAXA and ESA also agreed to continue cooperation in the field of Earth's observations to find out climate change and monitor greenhouse gases from space. In line with the gas monitoring mission, the two agencies will also monitor the anthropogenic emissions of the facility scale to the city.

Furthermore, these two institutions will continue dialogue on their various activities in Low Earth Orbit (LEO), considering the element of contribution in lunar exploration, supporting sustainable lunar exploration, and discussing the potential for Mars missions.
