Kominfo Reprimanded About Online Gambling Facilitation, ShopeePay Conducts Investigation

ShopeePay responded to the Kominfo warning (doc. ShopeePay).

JAKARTA ShopeePay, a digital wallet on the Shopee platform, responded to the warning from the Minister of Communication and Information (Menkominfo), Budi Arie Setiadi, regarding his services that facilitate online gambling transactions.

ShopeePay said that they were trying to prevent and stop all online gambling transactions on its platform.

Regarding transaction data found by Kominfo, ShopeePay is conducting an in-depth investigation.

"ShopeePay actively conducts investigations and reporting to the authorities as a form of active participation."

"The company is also committed to supporting the Government's efforts to combat illegal activities," said Eka Nilam from ShopeePay Indonesia's Director of Business and Partnership, in a statement received by VOI.

Eka further explained that ShopeePay has communicated in eradicating various illegal activities, including online gambling.

This digital wallet has also carried out routinely strict monitoring to detect suspicious activity.

"(Kami) menerapkan proses Know Your Customer/Merchant (KYC/M) atau verifikasi data diri & akun Pengguna/Merchant, Enhanced/Overgoing Due Diligence (penginian data diri Pengguna), melakukan penyelidikan terhadap transaksi suspicious, melaporkan pelanggaran kepada pihak berwenang, dan melakukan pemblokiran akun terkait," ungkap Eka.

Even though they have carried out strict monitoring, some users have succeeded in conducting online gambling transactions at the e-wallet service.

According to Kominfo data, the number of online gambling transactions at ShopeePay reached IDR 6,114,203,815 with a total transaction of 33,069.
