JAKARTA - A Swiss startup, UVeya, is developing a robot specially made to kill viruses on planes. This was done in an effort to restore the trust of aircraft passengers and save the aviation industry from the effects of the prolonged pandemic.

Launching CNA, Thursday, April 1, the robot has now been tested in Dubai, including the airline owned by Swiss billionaire Martin Ebner. UVeya founder Jodoc Elmiger revealed that his robot could be a solution so that people are not afraid to fly.

"This is a proven technology, has been used for more than 50 years in hospitals and laboratories, is very efficient. It leaves no traces or residues," Elmiger said.

Meanwhile, the Elmiger team has built three prototypes of the robot so far. One of the robots has been tested in a Helvetic jet at Zurich Airport. The way the prototype robot works, it will move to emit UV light around each part of the plane.

One robot can disinfect a small passenger plane in just 13 minutes. For larger aircraft it can take longer. Later a robot will sell for 15 thousand dollars or more.

Lukas Gyger, an executive at Dubai air travel agency company Dnata welcomes this. "We are looking for sustainable and environmentally friendly solutions to address this demand," he said, in Switzerland.

Prior to that, to obtain the robot, each airline had to certify the robot's equipment. Airlines are also required to study the impact of robotic UV rays on interior coatings, which can fade after multiple disinfection.
