Menkominfo Starts New Chapter Of Indonesian Television

JAKARTA - The Minister of Communication and Informatics (Menkominfo) Johnny G. Plate has started a new chapter of digitizing Indonesian television with the passage of Law Number 11 of 2020 concerning Job Creation. This law will become the basis for the Government to implement television digitization or analog-switch off (ASO).

According to Johnny, the preparation and implementation of television digitization has been strengthened, following Government Regulation Number 5 of 2021 concerning Implementation of Risk-Based Business Licensing (PP NSPK), Government Regulation Number 46 of 2021 concerning Post, Telecommunications and Broadcasting (PP Postelsiar), and 5 ( five) The draft of the Postelsiar sector Ministerial Regulation (RPM) which is being finalized to be promulgated on April 2, 2021.

"These regulations are here to provide legal certainty for postelsiar industry players to participate in preparing and implementing Indonesia's digital transformation," said the Minister of Communication and Information, Johnny G Plate, Thursday, April 1.

Johnny stated that in the era of digital transformation, Indonesia continues to strive to create a business environment that allows coexistence between conventional mainstream digital players and newcomers.

Quoting the results of a study projection on broadcast digitization, the Minister of Communication and Information said that Indonesia's digital economy would develop rapidly between US $ 130 billion and US $ 150 billion in 2024.

"We must use it for the benefit of the national economy and the national broadcasting industry," he said.

Therefore, Johnny hopes that stakeholders in the broadcasting industry can participate in the success of this television migration by focusing on participating in the multiplexing selection which is currently being opened for 22 cities until April 5, 2021.

"The participation of Mr. and Mrs. broadcasting industry players in this selection will also encourage fulfillment of the mandate of the ASO process which needs to be completed in less than 20 months, or on November 2, 2020," he said.

Johnny emphasized the important things that need to be understood by the public regarding the digitization of television broadcasts. According to him, this will encourage the release of analog broadcast frequencies and create a digital dividend for the people of Indonesia.

"The existence of this digital dividend can be used to develop the latest telecommunications technology and strengthen the quality of telecommunications services in various public sectors, including improving the quality of the 4G network and developing the 5G network," said Johnny.
