Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 Reportedly Exceeds Clock Speed 4.37 GHz

JAKARTA - Qualcomm is reportedly preparing a Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 processor that is stronger than initial estimates. According to the latest leak, this chipset could reach a clock speed exceeding 4.09 GHz previously recorded in the Geekbench listing.

This information comes from a trusted tipter, Digital Chat Station, which claims that the main core of Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 can reach speeds of up to 4.37 GHz.

If this clock speed proves to be correct, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 will be more competitive against the Apple A18 Pro which is reported to have a maximum clock speed of 4.45 GHz.

On the other hand, these tips also reveal that the MediaTek Dimensity 9400 will have a lower peak clock speed of 3.66 GHz. However, although clock speeds are often the main focus, it's not the only performance indicator.

Some reports suggest that Dimensity 9400 can outperform Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 thanks to the latest Cortex-X925 core of ARM. Digital Chat Station even mentions that Dimensity 9400 outperforms Qualcomm and Apple in terms of Instruction Per Clock (IPC) performance, with Cortex-X5 core exceeding the performance of the Nuvia Qualcomm CPU core and Apple A17 Pro.

Qualcomm is also expected to present a unique feature with Snapdragon 8 Gen 4. It is likely that this chip will be equipped with a DLSS Frame Gen-like feature for GPU Adreno 760, which can improve the gaming experience by upscaling images smartly.

The real performance of these chipsets does not only depend on clock speed. Architecture, power efficiency, and software optimization will also play an important role in determining real-world capabilities.

The public still has to wait for the official benchmark and launch of the device to see how Qualcomm and MediaTek's latest SoCs compete with each other. However, this leak shows that competition in the mobile realm is still far from over, and Qualcomm may still have a behind-the-scenes surprise.
