JAKARTA Google announced that it will remove third-party apps from digital stores on Fitbit devices. This deletion will take effect in the European Union (EU) in the coming months.

Through the Fitbit Assistance page, Google said that third-party application support had to be removed due to the latest EU regulations.

Google doesn't explain the types of regulations, but it seems to refer to the Digital Markets Act (DMA).

"After conducting a careful assessment of the impact of the new regulatory requirements, we have made the decision to remove third-party applications and clocks from the Fitbit app for users in the European Economic Zone," Google said.

The loss of third-party application support will begin in June 2024. Before this new policy is established, all Fitbit users can still download or install third-party applications.

Google did not explain whether all third-party applications that had been installed could be operated after the policy took effect. However, users will be directed to the application made by Fitbit or Google.

This change only occurs in the EU and will not affect other countries. The device models that will be affected are Fitbit Sense, Fitbit Sense 2, Fitbit Versa 4, Fitbit Versa 3, Fitbit Versa 2, Fitbit Versa Lite, Fitbit Versa, Fitbit Versa, and Fitbit Ionic.

This policy will not affect Google Pixel Watch and Pixel Watch 2. Although many devices will be affected, at least Fitbit and Google apps will remain available even though the options for the application will be more limited.
