JAKARTA - The social media scene is enlivened by uploading a video of TikTokers prying the chip the e-KTP. In the video, he shows the existence of the chip in e-KTP.

I don't know what the motive behind TikTokers is to pry the chip in the e-KTP. However, it is said that the chip dismantling can be used to track someone's whereabouts.

The random assumptions of netizens and TikTokers were then answered by the Dukcapil of the Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri). The Director-General of Population and Civil Registry (Dukcapil) of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Zudan Arif Fakrullah, advised residents not to destroy the e-KTP they already have.

"Don't destroy the electronic KTP because it is an important document for yourself, and if it is damaged you have to make it back to the Dukcapil. The blanks are limited and there is a COVID-19 pandemic", said Zudan, when confirmed.

Zudan ensured that the chip function on the e-KTP only contained population data which could be opened in two ways, namely by using a card reader or in collaboration with the Dirjen Dukcapil user institution.

"The chip in the electronic KTP only contains population data and this population data can be opened only with a card reader or cooperation between the user institution and Direjn Dukcapil without cooperation cannot open the data, without a card reader it cannot read the data contained in the data. An electronic KTP, and in an electronic KTP there is no other chip containing other modules", Zudan said in the video.

Zudan also explained that this kind of e-KTP tampering had also occurred in 2020. At that time the narrative circulating on the timeline said that the e-KTP could be used to intercept someone's activities.

Zudan ensured that the e-KTP was safe to carry because it was a sign of citizen identity. He appealed to those who felt uncomfortable with the KTP to report to the Dukcapil.

"If there is anything uncomfortable with feeling like my ID card is being tapped, followed in his footsteps, please report it to the Dukcapil call center. I make sure that the chip only contains population data and the chip only stores population data, not for tapping, not for the following someone", said Zudan.
