JAKARTA - Instagram has announced the latest guide for Content Creator. One of them emphasizes that this social media platform wants its users to stop re-uploading videos from TikTok to Reels. Instagram's new algorithm contains changes that make Reels videos recommended to other users.

These recommendations are only limited to videos made using the Reels feature. Based on Instagram's findings, many users are not satisfied with videos that feature the TikTok watermark.

“We heard that low-quality Reels (blurry output due to low resolution) or recycled content from other apps (which contain watermarks) makes Reels pages less satisfying. So, we also made the content unable to be found on the Reels page", explained Instagram through the @creators account, yesterday, Tuesday, February 9.

Instagram spokesperson, Devi Narasimhan, told The Verge that they managed to find some important notes while studying the Search page.

According to her, Instagram is developing ways to recommend fun and entertaining videos on certain pages such as Reels. Apart from that, it's also how to produce a personalized Reels experience.

"We have progressed further in using ranking signals to predict whether users will find Reel (video) entertaining and whether we should recommend it", explained Narasimhan via The Verge.

In addition, Narasimhan also presented Instagram's findings from a user survey. It is known that users are less satisfied with Reels videos if the content is recycled content from other applications or is opaque.

"So that Instagram will curate the display of the content in the recommendation algorithm. This algorithm can make the video less likely to be found by users who don't follow the uploader", said Narasimhan.

For the sake of surpassing TikTok?

Until now, cross-platform content types are still the prima donna of most creators. Not infrequently, we can easily find accounts that contain content from other platforms. For example, such as an Instagram account that shares funny or viral videos from TikTok.

It seems that Instagram is starting to feel uncomfortable seeing the behavior of users who share videos from TikTok. Therefore, this social media platform which has billions of daily users launched the Reels feature in August 2020.

Similar to TikTok, this feature can be used by users to create short videos and share them directly on the platform. Users can also take advantage of the video editing service that has been provided so that it promises more interesting results and steal people's attention.

Instagram Reels (Instagram)

“Reels teaches you to make funny videos to share with friends or anyone on Instagram. Record and edit a 15-second video using the provided creative tools, audio, and effects”, explained Instagram via their official blog page, Wednesday, February 10.

Not enough with that, Instagram has also developed a new algorithm for the video recommendation feature. So, will this strategy succeed for Instagram to get content from creators who are loyal to Reels?
