JAKARTA - Samsung has finally launched its newest flagship chipset called the Exynos 2100. This Snapdragon 888 competitor chipset is a 5nm process fabrication chipset that brings significant improvements in performance, CPU, GPU and AI and is also equipped with a 5G modem.
The Exynos 2100 5nm processor is built on the 5nm EUV process node. The new chip has an octa-core chipset with a 1 + 3 + 4 core array consisting of one prime Cortex-X1 core clocked at 2.9GHz, three high-performance Cortex-A78 cores, and four power-saving Cortex-A55 cores.
"Today, we are proud to introduce the Exynos 2100, our most advanced mobile processor. Armed with powerful technology and a state-of-the-art 5G modem on power-efficient 5nm process nodes. This is a new standard for future flagship mobile devices," said the President of Samsung Electronics' LSI Business System, Inyup Kang, at the Exynos 2021 virtual event, Tuesday (January 12).
During the event, Kang said that the new CPU brings a 30 percent increase in multi-core performance and a 19 percent increase in single-core performance over the previous generation.
The Mali-G78 GPU is also embedded in the new processor, which offers a graphics performance increase of more than 40 percent. This GPU has 14 cores which is significantly less than the 24 cores of the Kirin 9000.
While the new feature of this chipset is AMIGO (Advanced Multi-IP Governor) technology which can ignore and optimize the power usage of CPU, GPU, and other processes, thus allowing longer usage times even with intense on-screen activity.
In addition, there is also a new ISP (Image Signal Processor) that offers camera resolution support up to 200MP. This ISP has support for up to six cameras and can process four cameras simultaneously.
The Exynos 2100 also brings support for 4K recording at 120 FPS and 8K playback at 60 FPS. It is also the first chipset with an AV1 decoder for 8K video.
AI capabilities are also enhanced, with the latest tri-core NPU technology designed to perform unnecessary operations more effectively. Its processing power has also increased from 15 TOPS (trillion operations per second) to 26.
Meanwhile, the Exynos 2100 integrated 5G modem supports sub-6GHz spectrum and mmWave 5G up to 2G GSM / CDMA, 3G WCDMA 4G LTE for strong and reliable network coverage.
Although Samsung did not say which smartphone will use the chipset, it is predictable that the Galaxy S21 which will be launched on Thursday, January 14 will use it. The chipset is already in mass production.
