PlayStation Falls To NFT, Will Present A Digital Art Trading System In The Gaming World

JAKARTA - Sony Interactive Entertainment, the company behind the PlayStation game console, recently revealed that it is exploring how to leverage blockchain and non-fungible tokens (NFT) technology in video games.

Through a new patent entitled "NFT Framework For Transferring And Using Digital Assets Between Game Platforms". The company plans to allow users to transact digital assets between platforms in an easier way, according to the NFT Evening report.

Paten tersebut juga menyebutkan rencana Sony untuk mendukung penjualan NFTs kepada pemain lain melalui sebuah marketplace yang akan didukung oleh teknologi digital ledger. Namun, ini masih bukan konsep terbaru dari Sony. Ada paten lain yang merinci rencana mereka untuk melimankan NFTs kepada pemain dan penonton stream.

This patent was created because in reality, users are currently unable to use digital assets on various games and platforms simultaneously due to technological limitations. This patent serves to make it easier for users to be able to transact digital assets on various game platforms.

The use of NFT and blockchain technology in gaming will have a significant impact on the gaming industry. This allows players to securely conduct digital asset transactions on various game platforms, as well as provide opportunities for developers to reach a wider market. However, it remains unclear how Sony will implement this technology on their games and gaming platforms in the future.

Even so, the existence of this intellectual property does not guarantee that this technology will be implemented. Sony Interactive Entertainment, which is responsible for game-related research and development, filed nearly a thousand patent applications annually. According to the USPTO database, the company was awarded more than 170 patents in the first quarter of 2023.
