Starlink Roam, Internet Service Via Global Satellite Accessable Everywhere

JAKARTA - Recently, Starlink launched an internet service via a new global satellite called Starlink Roam. This service promises internet access in almost all places around the world for $200 (IDR 3 million) per month or USD 150 (IDR 2.3 million) per month for regional access.

Customers can also choose a portable antenna for $599 (IDR 9.25 million) or an antenna for use while traveling for 2,500 US dollars (IDR 38.5 million). Previously, users could only use the Starlink satellite on the same continent.

Starlink markets this new service as a way for customers to use the internet in "locations where connections are unreliable or completely unavailable." Customers can also stop and restart subscriptions at any time, while still being billed in a one month period.

While there are still not many details about Starlink Roam, the service is claimed to be completely unreliable and has few connectivity issues. However, the FAQ page for Starlink Roam states that this global service is "only orderable" in countries listed on the Starlink availability map. It is not yet clear whether this service is still available in countries where Starlink is technically unallowed.

Starlink has plans for $5.000 per month for internet access at sea, and also makes its Flat High Performance antenna available for use on trips inside RVs and other vehicles. The launch of Starlink Roam comes just one day after Amazon revealed its Project Kuiper customer terminal.

It is not clear whether Starlink can be used in Indonesia at this time. At the time of writing, Starlink was still awaiting regulatory approval from several countries including India, Pakistan, and Cambodia.

Elon Musk also stated in an interview with the Financial Times that the Chinese government "has confirmed its disapproval of the recent Starlink launch." However, Starlink stated that its services could be booked only in countries listed on the Starlink availability map. Therefore, it is necessary to wait for further information to find out whether Starlink services will be available in Indonesia in the future.
