Microsoft Plans To Bring Modern Design To Edge Browser In Phoenix Project

JAKARTA - Microsoft is working on a redesign of its Edge web browser under the code name Phoenix, whose results should differentiate Microsoft Edge better than its browser competition.

According to a new report, Microsoft is working on delivering a modern variant with a better user interface and bringing in a lot of productivity features to help Edge stand out in the Chrome-dominated market, through Edge Phoenix.

Edge Phoenix is an internal concept the company has developed since the summer of 2022. It has many unique features, some of which are already available in the preview version of Microsoft Edge.

One of the new features that has been seen recently is Split View by presenting a rounding angle and Mica's treatment.

These features activate the round tab in Edge and make the title bar, tool bar, and menu look more like the original Windows 11 app than generic Chromium-based browsers. It was an attempt to make Microsoft Edge stand out from the rest.

Windows Central reports that Microsoft is testing the Tab Activity Center feature at Edge which works similarly to the iPhone and Android's Screen Time and Digital Wellbeing features. The Tab Activity Center offers insights into the use of browsers.

Microsoft is also considering turning Edge into a password manager across the system, considering the browser already has one of the best password managers in its class, allowing users to enable and run Edge during Windows initial preparation, as quoted by Neowin, Friday, January 27.

Edge's slow progress year after year on the desktop market is a clear sign that Microsoft needs to step up its game and offer customers more attractive products. Maybe Edge Phoenix is a breath of fresh air to help Microsoft rejuvenate its browser.
