JAKARTA - Meta has officially announced that it will soon end support for its first VR headset, the four-year-old Meta Quest 1.

In an announcement sent by the company in an email to the owner, Meta Quest will lose access to Meta Horizon Home on March 5, 2023.

"We launched Quest 1 more than four years ago and we thank the Quest 1 community for pushing VR forward," the email wrote, based on screenshots shared by users on Twitter.

When it comes to the end of support, Meta makes it clear that the company will only stop developing new features for the old headset. In contrast, the original Meta Quest is still scheduled to get security updates by at least 2024.

Keep in mind that ending support doesn't mean your VR headset can no longer be used, but Meta just won't provide feature updates to the device.

You can still use Quest 1 headsets and available apps. Meta will not send new features to Quest 1 and plans to continue maintaining system software with critical bug improvements and security patching until 2024.

Quest 1 users can no longer create or join parties, and for users who currently have access to the Meta Horizon Home social feature will lose access to this feature on March 5, 2023.

This means that you will no longer be able to invite other people to your home or vice versa, which is when you want to visit someone else's house.

While the original Meta Quest looks at the end of its life, support for the highly popular Meta Quest 2 is still strong. However, it is likely that we will see support for Meta Quest 2 also begin to subside in 2024, especially after the Meta Quest 3 is due to launch soon.
