Wisconsin Will Become A Series Of US States That Are Ban TikTok Used On Government Devices

JAKARTA - The governor of Wisconsin, Tony Evers, revealed that he plans to join other states in banning the use of the TikTok application on government-run devices.

Evers plans to implement the rules starting next week. He told WISN-TV the move was taken after consulting with the FBI and emergency management officials.

The governor's spokesman, Britt Cudaback, confirmed the ban would be announced next week and more details would follow.

The governor also does not have an official personal TikTok account or installs TikTok on personal or other states. His campaign does have an account, but is not managed using any state government apparatus.

Calls to ban TikTok from government devices are increasing after US FBI Director Christopher Wray said in November that it poses a national security risk.

Wray stated there was a threat where the Chinese government could use the app to influence users or control their devices.

Citing US News, Friday, January 7, following Wray's statement, as many as 20 US states have banned TikTok from state-owned devices, citing concerns about its holdings in China.

Last month, US President Joe Biden signed a government funding Bill (RUU) which includes a ban on federal employees from using or downloading TikTok on government-owned devices.

The bill gives the White House's Office of Management and Budget for 60 days to develop standards and guidelines for executive agencies requiring removing TikTok from federal devices.

For information, TikTok owned by ByteDance, a Chinese company has one million users, and has moved its headquarters to Singapore in 2020.
