JAKARTA - TikTok is testing a new Sleep Reminders feature. As the name implies, this new feature will remind users when it's time for sleep to arrive to stop scrolling through social media.

So when users have spent a few hours scrolling through the video-sharing app, this new feature will probably help them avoid staying overnight.

According to a TechCrunch report quoted on Saturday, January 7, this feature comes as TikTok users complain about lost hours on the platform, especially at night. Therefore, the new sleep reminder feature is currently being tested with certain users globally.

Based on screenshots uploaded by intelligence product company Watchful.ai, it shows that the feature will appear under Screen Time settings in the app.

After selecting bedtime, users will be reminded to close the app when it reaches that time. TikTok will also turn off notifications for seven hours after the user's bedtime to help avoid interference.

Users who are part of the test will see a new Sleep Finders option. A company spokesperson said TikTok will continue to seek new ways to support the users' welfare and the new tool is built on its current digital welfare features.

For information, ByteDance's Chinese-based TikTok first launched a screen time management tool in February 2020 and has since introduced an additional feature aimed at giving users more control over their use of the app.
