JAKARTA - During the 2023 Consumer Electronics Show (CES), Nvidia announced its new technology RTX Super Resolution Video which can improve video resolution quality above 1080p or 4K with the help of artificial intelligence (AI).

According to the company, owners of GPU Series GeForce RTX 4000 and 3000 can activate RTX Video Super Resolution starting next month to leverage AI in improving the quality of any video content seen in Chrome and Edge browsers.

RTX Super Resolution video is a new AI upgrade tool from Nvidia, although it wasn't created to make the games played look or run better, but it will still be very useful for gamers, as it takes video resolutions of more than 1080p on browsers used and converts them into 4K.

In his presentation at CES, Nvidia demonstrated a video demonstration of the new technology working on the Apex Legends footage, showing the edge of the object being sharpened and the video's opaque being reduced.

In addition, this tool can also be used by users to watch YouTube in its original resolution on high resolution views.

Thanks to the RTX Super Resolution video, Netflix users can also choose cheaper levels (such as Basic, which stream in HD, or Standard, which stream in Full HD) and then take advantage of this technology to improve video quality.

Quoted from The Verge, Friday, January 6, in addition to supporting 1080p, RTX Super Resolution Videos are claimed to also function at 360p, 1440p, video resolutions to 144Hz frame speeds.

Nvidia said the final result should offer a major improvement for video clarity on high resolution views where otherwise images may look a little worse to use.

Unfortunately, RTX Super Resolution videos are limited to users with the latest 30 or 40 series GPUs, which means anyone with an older 20 or 10 series card won't benefit when launched in February.

For information, Nvidia has previously made its video AI upgrade technology available on dedicated Shield TV and Shield TV Pro streaming devices, but bringing it to the browser should make it available for a much larger audience.
