JAKARTA - The state of Kansas, United States (US), is on the latest list banning TikTok from being used on government devices.
The governor of Kansas, Laura Kelly, has banned the Chinese-based social media app on devices managed by state governments.
Just like other states, Kelly's move also avoided the threat of national security echoed by many people with the app.
"TikTok mines user data and has the potential to make it available to the Chinese Communist Party, including a history of search and location," Kelly said in a statement.
The app has been banned by fifteen other states, but Kansas was one of the first Democrat states to impose such a ban.
In response to Kelly's move, TikTok spokesman Jamal Brown said the ban was politically motivated and such national security issues were based on baseless lies.
"We are disappointed that so many states are participating in politics to enforce policies that will do nothing to advance cybersecurity in their states and are based on baseless lies about TikTok," Brown stressed.
Quoted from Phone Arena, Friday, December 30, this news emerged a day after the US House of Representatives (DPR) imposed a similar ban on their managed devices.
Earlier, the US Senate imposed a similar ban in early December and Congress had seen a bill potentially banning the app nationwide.
It is known, TikTok is currently the second most popular domain on the internet, after Google. ByteDance's short video platform has grown rapidly and now has more users from the combined Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Snapchat.
