JAKARTA - Audi, the German car manufacturer plans to produce electric vehicles (EVs) in all of its factories before 2030.
Audi also said it would only introduce a global all-electric model starting in 2026, and stop the production of internal combustion vehicles by 2033.
But before that, the EVs and combustion models will be built side by side at the existing Audi plant. Starting with the manufacture of an E-Tron Q6 SUV at the Ingolstadt plant in Germany next year.
"After that the company will add electric models to other factories in Neighborarsulm, Germany, San target Chiapa, Mexico, and Gyor, Hungary, with the aim of each global plant producing at least one electric model by 2029," Audi said in a press release found by Green Car Reports.
Audi also confirmed that they would only build a new factory when needed additional capacity. One of these factories is under construction in Changchun, China, in collaboration with local car manufacturer FAW.
The factory in China is expected to be completed in 2024, and will start building an EV based on the Premium Platform Electric (PPE) architecture. Thus, this will be the first Chinese Audi plant to produce EVs exclusively.
Audi is not the only automaker planning to combine EV production and gasoline vehicles.
