JAKARTA - After two years of launch, Meta Quest 2 is still a virtual reality headset that is widely popular because it is affordable. Now, Meta says it will increase the strength of the smart device's Graphics Processing Unit (GPU).

In its announcement, the company will add power to the Meta Quest 2 GPU, which will provide developers with a little more work on their projects.

With this update, developers will be able to take advantage of the new GPU frequency of 535 MHz which can be used to improve the performance of their applications. This increase is up 7 percent from the previous figure of 490 MHz.

"Today, we are pleased to announce that you now have more GPU computing power to work with the Meta Quest 2 device "exactly 7 percent more," Meta said in its official blog post, quoted Friday, December 23.

Furthermore, Meta also stated that an unlocked GPU increase would utilize higher pixel density without reducing resolutions substantially to achieve target frame speeds.

Interestingly, developers don't need to add any additional codes to their projects to take advantage of upgrades as the dynamic working hours recording system Meta Quest 2 will automatically increase the GPU frequency when needed.

"We are constantly looking for ways to improve developer features and experiences, including finding ways to help you improve pixel quality and app performance," Meta said.

However, users must remove and impose a Meta Quest 2 headset after opening the app to view additional computing power. Starting with v49, additional computing power will be available as soon as it launches the app.

Meta Quest 2 launched more than two years ago, and is likely to be re-launching the Meta Quest 3 next year, so it's surprising to see the company roll out a major update for developers on today's headsets with very little time potential before new ones come out.
