JAKARTA - Qualcomm is aware that the Internet of Things (IoT) is increasingly needed, so the company is launching a new IoT modem designed to offer greater site-based computing, connectivity and technology capabilities.

The new technology Qualcomm QCX216 LTE IoT Modem, works as a new generation solution for IoT which is fast, powerful, and high-performance.

The modem is designed to track user assets and provide additional computing capabilities for IoT devices that need to process data.

Integrated solutions provide IoT-optimized speeds without overly affecting battery life, which is critical to expanding IoT apps such as smart utility gauges, trackers, e-mobility, parking meter, automation, home safety, and other location-based solutions.

Qualcomm QCX216 LTE IoT Modem is described as Cat.1bis modem at optimal cost and can work globally on LTE mobile infrastructure. Although 5G, the main driver of connectivity, added to a large number of devices, LTE-based technology will dominate IoT to beyond 2026.

"cellular IOT is growing rapidly to meet the various needs and cases of IoT use, and we are pushing for a roadmap rich in system innovation to continue IoT's expansion," said senior vice president and general manager of Connected Smart Systems (CSS) at Qualcomm, Jeffery Torrance, quoted from Computer Weekly, Friday, December 16.

Market consulting and research firm Kaleido Intelligence revealed last September that major changes to the benefits gained from IoT in the last 12 months, with 86 percent of respondents from senior IT positions focused more on operational efficiency, reduced costs, and increased revenue and profit switched to IoT for stability.

"Our latest IoT modem is an interesting step forward in the proliferation of the mobile IoT ecosystem, and will help create a durable power saving device and drive growth and expansion in the IoT industry," said Torrance.

Qualcomm believes that this capability can also make manufacturers build affordable IoT devices in smaller form factors.
