UK Satellite Internet Service Trials From Starlink For Remoted Region Jangkau

JAKARTA - The UK will conduct tests to use low Earth orbit satellites to provide high-speed internet connections to remote homes and businesses. This test is supported by equipment supplied by Elon Musk's Starlink system.

The British government said on Wednesday, November 30 that it would start with Starlink "given the current readiness and availability of its technology". The UK also held discussions with other providers such as the British satellite company OneWeb.

SpaceX rocket company, from Elon Musk, which operates Starlink, has most of its consumer-based services with hundreds of thousands of internet users, in Ukraine following Russia's February invasion.

Since then, Kyiv has provided thousands of terminals, allowing Ukrainians to connect to the internet in places far from the reach of domestic systems.

In England, outdoor activity centers in the Snowdonian National Park in Wales and a mountain rescue base in Lake District in northwest England will be the venue to be used to install equipment, allowing them to connect to satellites and access broadbands 10 times faster than previously available.

"The high-speed roadband emitted to Earth from space can be the answer to connectivity problems experienced by people in locations trapped in digital slow lanes," said British Digital Minister Michelle Donelan.

"This trial aims to find a solution to the high cost of installing cables to remote locations," added Donelan.

After trials, the British government said it would consider the feasibility of using satellite technology to connect locations that are "very difficult to reach", less than 1% of locations that are too difficult to upgrade via expensive physical cables such as small islands or mountainous areas.

In addition to testing the satellite's technical capabilities, trials will see the benefits of a faster internet connection to these locations.
