The Telecommunication Network Operators Association (APJATEL) held a National Working Meeting (Rakernas) with the theme Acceleration, Collaboration and Synergy in the Sovereignty of Indonesia's Digital Transformation.

This year's National Working Meeting theme was motivated by the rapid development of digital technology which increasingly provides space for the growth of the digital economy in Indonesia, where the Government has launched a digital transformation program in encouraging the wider adoption of digital technology, in order to support Indonesia's economic growth, including investment d.

In implementing digital transformation, support is needed from the availability of quality and equitable digital infrastructure to remote areas of the country, in order to encourage the spread of digital content so that it can reach the wider community to remote areas.

This is also in line with the direction of the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Mr. Joko Widodo, to accelerate access, improve digital infrastructure, and provide Internet services for the people of Indonesia.

"This year's APJATEL National Working Meeting we are focusing on the steps that need to be taken to support and realize the national digital transformation program," said Jerry Siregar, General Chair of APJATEL in his remarks at the 2022 APJATEL National Working Meeting in Jakarta, Tuesday, November 29.

According to Jerry, part of the steps he thinks are important to make are the preparation of comprehensive and national regulations.

"We also hope that this National Working Meeting can also convey messages and provide information in the form of guidelines or references in the form of policies or regulations as a form of support for the telecommunications infrastructure development process in realizing digital transformation in our country," he concluded.

Responding to this, the Directorate General of Post and Information Apparatus Resources (SDPPI) of the Ministry of Communication and Informatics, Ismail said that the government must avoid complicated bureaucracy, and must make clear policies.

"One of the roles of the government here is to avoid complicated bureaucracy, so the government must make clear policies, because everyone is waiting for connectivity. Don't do processes that can hinder the development of fiber optic infrastructure," said Ismail on the same occasion.

It is undeniable that there are still many obstacles faced by telecommunications operators in deploying telecommunications networks and greatly hampering the acceleration of digital infrastructure development in Indonesia.

The main problem is the widespread application of rental price costs by the Regional Government for the implementation of telecommunication networks in their area. This condition causes high costs on the community side when accessing the internet.

In line with what was conveyed by the General Chairperson of APJATEL, this National Working Meeting is expected to be able to achieve a common understanding that the success of national digital transformation is highly dependent on the development of digital infrastructure coverage and capacity, namely telecommunication networks.
