JAKARTA - Google has again brought the Material You color feature into its line of products, this time the desktop Chrome caught trying out various modern color designs.

However, this feature is still in the experimental version of the popular Chrome browser, Canary version 110. Google offers four release channels for its browsers, namely Stable, Beta, Dev, and Canary.

The new feature was first reported by Reddit user Leopeva64-2, which shows how to automatically customize the address bar color scheme and browser interface.

Previously to change Chrome color scheme, users had to do it manually, but the presence of this new feature actually simplifies the process. The dynamical theme on the Chrome desktop works slightly differently than on Android.

According to Google, the feature activates theme color settings based on background image color when the background image is changed on the New Tab Page. This feature is available on Google's Mac, Windows, and Linux, as well as ChromeOS and Fuchsia operating systems.

This new feature makes the browser feel more personal, just like what Material You did on Android. However, users need to install Google Chrome Canary to enjoy this new Material You dynamic theme.

Even so, it most likely doesn't take long before the feature arrives at the browser's stable version. Launching The Verge, Tuesday, November 14, to make it work, users must activate the chrome flag://flags/#customize-chrome-color-extraction.

It seems that the feature works best with a more colorful wallpaper, while the darker background tends to make Chrome interface black, brown, or gray.

The theme change only occurs when you switch to the wallpaper provided in one collection from Google. Using the image itself will not change the UI theme, and will continue to use the previous theme.

For your information, this is a feature similar to Android's Material You, adjusting the operating system's color scheme based on what is detected on the user's home screen wallpaper.

Starting his debut on Android 12 years ago, the feature was later expanded in this year's Android update and Google has also rolled out theme options to some of its Android apps.
