JAKARTA - Recently, the use of the password feature has become popular, claiming to be the safest security system compared to passwords or passwords. Now, PayPal has added the feature to its platform.

PayPal's new login method was launched for iPhone, iPad, and Mac users on PayPal.com with plans to expand passkey support to other platforms.

PayPal users will find the option to create a passkey after logging into their account via a desktop or mobile web browser on the device running iOS 16, iPadOS 16.1, or macOS Ventura.

They will be asked to authenticate settings with Face ID or Touch ID. Passkey will then be created and synchronized automatically across Apple devices with iCloud Keychain.

It should be noted, the feature is currently only supported on desktop and mobile web, and PayPal has confirmed plans to expand support to the PayPal app in the coming months.

This Passkey PayPal will initially be launched for users in the United States (US) first, and will be available globally in 2023.

Passkey is a new type of entry credentials that replace and address password-based authentication weaknesses with cryptographic key pairs. This feature is claimed to be resistant to phishing attempts and designed to avoid sharing password data between platforms.

Currently, the passkey is backed by Apple, Google and Microsoft who have pledged to bring the FIDO Alliance standard to their respective operating systems.

The FIDO Alliance is an open industry association launched in 2013, with the aim of helping tech giants reduce dependence on password usage.

The Verge reported, quoted on Tuesday, October 25, that using passwords across cyber accounts makes users vulnerable to hacking.

A study from Verizon showed that more than 2.6 billion records were hacked in 2017, with 81 percent expected to be caused by theft and password guesses.
