Create A Joint Enterprise With Horizon Robotic, Investment VW IDR 37.6 Trillion For Vehicle Automatically In China

JAKARTA - Volkswagen Group is announcing its partnership between its software company, CARIAD and Horizon Robotics, one of the leading providers of computing solutions for smart vehicles in China.

This partnership aims to strengthen development competence and promote technology localization, with development focused on regional development of the Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) and Autonomous Driving (AD) systems in China.

As part of the partnership, CARIAD and Horizon Robotics plan to set up a joint venture, with CARIAD as majority shareholders. VW will invest around 2.4 billion euros (Rp37.6 trillion), which is expected to be completed in the first half of 2023.

Partnership with Horizon Robotics is the main basis of our strategy to reconcil and further strengthen our activities in our most important markets around the world." said Ralf Brandst counter, Member of the Volkswagen AG Management Council for China in a statement on Volkswagen's blog.

According to him, with the cutting-edge technology consisting of complete software and hardware set to be developed by new joint ventures, it will allow us to adapt our products and services more quickly and more consistently to the needs of VW customers in China.

"Cooperating with Horizon Robotics will allow Volkswagen to accelerate the development of automated driving solutions as part of our New AUTO strategy and encourage the reposition of our Chinese business," he concluded.

CARIAD and Horizon Robotics are jointly planning to develop highly optimal ADAS/AD stack solutions for China to drive integration of multiple functions on a single chip, improve system stability, save costs, and reduce energy consumption.

"As a global automotive software and technology company Volkswagen Group, CARIAD is an important force in transforming Groups into software-based mobility providers," said CARIAD CEO Dirk Hilgenberg.

Hilgenberg revealed that the goal of this partnership is to create long-term value in China for the Group and our shareholders in line with market developments expected.
