JAKARTA - Vodafone Group Plc (Vodafone), a telecommunications company has confirmed that it is in discussions with Three UK, an operator owned by CK Hutchison to accelerate the adoption of their 5G network.

The transactions envisioned would involve both companies combining their businesses, with Vodafone owning 51% and partners, and CK Hutchison owning 49% of the combined business.

The UK government sees 5G as a transformation for the economy and society which is considered important for the UK to become more competitive in this increasingly digital world.

According to him, conditions to ensure growing competition in the 5G market need to be maintained, because if not, the UK risks losing the opportunity to become 5G leaders around the world.

"By combining our businesses, the UK's Vodafone and Three UK will get the scale needed to accelerate the full 5G rollout in the UK and expand broadband connectivity to rural communities and small businesses," the company wrote in a press release found by TechCrunch.

Vodafone said that this is just the first step in the process, which may or may never end in an agreement.

Vodafone said its deal with the Three UK would make more statements during and when talks took place.

The combined business will challenge two already consolidated players for all British customers and bring benefits through competitive price access to a more reliable, high-quality, and secure third 5G network across the UK.

"There is no certainty that any transaction between the two companies will eventually be approved. If necessary, further announcements will be made if needed," concluded the company.
