JAKARTA - Crystal Dynamics and Eidos Montreal have officially taken over the Tomb Raider and Deus Ex franchises from the previous owner, Square Enix.

"We are pleased to inform that Crystal Dynamics has taken over several game franchises including TOMB RAIDER and Legacy of Fabric from previous game owners, Square Enix Limited," Studio wrote in its announcement.

Not without reason, the takeover of the game was because last May, Embracer Group announced its planned acquisition of Square Enix, including Crystal Dynamics, Eidos Montreal and Square Enix Montreal.

The deal, worth US$300 million (Rp4.45 steplun) includes IP catalogs such as Tomb Raider, Deus Ex, Thief and Legacy of Fabric, which were closed at the end of last August.

"As a result of this change, Crystal Dynamics (or its affiliate) is now the owner of these games and gameplay controller and personal data related to them," the studio wrote further.

On the other hand, Embracer Group also said in May that it was considering releasing a sequel, remake, reverse, spin-off and much more for Crystal Dynamics and Eidos Montreal IP after completing the acquisition.

In April, Crystal Dynamics said that the next Tomb Raider game had entered development using an Unreal Engine 5.
