JAKARTA - Google is expanding the mode of environmentally friendly travel routes on Maps. They launched this feature in dozens of European countries and made it more efficient by allowing users to choose the type of fuel their cars use.

This feature was originally launched in the US and Canada last year. This feature will highlight routes that use less energy if they have another alternative route similar to those of them.

Google says that starting today, the feature is rolling out to users in "nearly 40" European countries, including France, Ireland, Poland, Spain, and the UK. This feature was introduced in Germany last month.

Google also adds the ability to notify Maps if your car has a diesel, gas, hybrid, or electric engine, so it can find the most efficient route for your specific type of vehicle. It even provides more accurate estimates of how efficient the environmentally friendly routes are used.

The system builds on information taken from the US Department of Energy's National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) and the European Environmental Agency, combined with Google Maps' driving trends to train engine learning models based on the most popular machines in certain regions.

Using an example from Google's blog post, this could mean that people with diesel-powered vehicles will be directed along high-speed freeways, where their engines run the most efficiently.

While someone in a hybrid or electric vehicle might get advice including a low-lying road, where they can better utilize regenerative braking.
