JAKARTA – The giant smartphone manufacturer from China, Xiaomi, does not want to be left behind in the AI robot development competition. Unmitigated, Xiaomi presents its CyberOne robot. This has the potential to become a rival to Tesla's robot, the Tesla Bot.

CyberOne appeared on the sidelines of the Xiaomi Autumn event held in Beijing, August 11, 2022 yesterday. The robot went up on stage to meet Xiaomi boss Lei Jun. In fact, CyberOne had time to take a selfie with the boss of Xiaomi.

CyberOne is the first-generation humanoid bionic robot made by the tech giant Xiaomi. Previously, Xiaomi had launched a robot dog called Cyberdog at the same event in 2021.

Like most other humanoid robots, most aspects of the Xiaomi CyberOne are still in the development stage. Xiaomi claims that in the future, the robotic variant that evolves will not only have a high level of emotional intelligence but will also have the ability to sense human emotions.

According to a Slashgear report, despite the fact that the first-generation CyberOne demonstrated on stage appeared to have difficulty walking, work is underway to improve its ability to master the art of bipedal movement.

Xiaomi claims that the CyberOne humanoid robot uses a combination of complex mechatronics and Artificial Intelligence (AI) developed by Xiaomi's dedicated robotics division — Xiaomi Robot Labs. Even though the product is in its first generation, the company says it has spent a lot of resources and effort developing CyberOne.

Xiaomi CyberOne Robot Capabilities

CyberOne robot has a height of about 177 cm and weighs more than 52 kg. This is a size that is not much different from the average human being in general. Interestingly, the robot is able to respond to questions quickly. CyberOne is also capable of carrying small objects weighing up to 1.5 kg, using only one hand.

To ensure the robot's weight remains under control, Xiaomi technicians must adhere to strict weight restrictions. This restriction eventually allowed them to limit the motor weight that moves the limbs to just 500 grams. The main motor — located around the hip joint — can generate peak torque of over 300 nm, claims Xiaomi.

CyberOne uses the Mi-Sense vision module, a technology developed in-house by Xiaomi. With this technology, CyberOne is able to see the room in three dimensions. It doesn't stop there, the Mi-Sense algorithm gives CyberOne the ability to recognize people, gestures, and even facial expressions.

The humanoid robot is equipped with the MiAI environmental semantic recognition engine and the MiAI speech emotion recognition engine. That way, CyberOne can distinguish about 85 different types of environmental sounds. The robot's head is equipped with a curved OLED screen. It is claimed to be able to display interactive content and related information in real-time.

Xiaomi explained that the Xiaomi CyberOne robot is the company's first step towards developing a sophisticated humanoid robot. Therefore, its development takes a long time so that it can be sold to the public on a massive scale.
