JAKARTA - In 2020, Spotify conducted a limited test of video-based podcasts. The following year, the company began rolling it out to a group of content creators via the Anchor platform.

Then in April 2022, Spotify then introduced the tool to all content creators in the US, Canada, New Zealand, Australia, and the United Kingdom.

The rollout also includes monetization tools like Subscriptions and engagement features like Question and Answer (Q&A) and Polls. Plus, Spotify allows podcast creators to embed their videos off-platform just as you would a YouTube video.

Now, Spotify is expanding its video podcast launch in Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Brazil and Mexico. Launching this tool in these six countries is Spotify's first launch in a non-English speaking country.

“This is a marketplace with a very strong community of podcasters who have demonstrated a healthy appetite for new ways to create and enjoy podcasts,” the company said.

According to the music streaming company, podcast video is a medium that has historically been underutilized, but has the potential to grow by opening up new ways to help audiences engage with their favorite podcasts.

Apart from that, video podcasts also allow listeners to feel more connected with content creators. Not only listening, the audience can also see the visuals.

Also recently Spotify has added real-time song lyrics to its service on the Google Nest Hub.
