JAKARTA - The Lazada e-commerce platform has reportedly been hacked. A total of 1.1 million personal data including the credit card numbers of Lazada users were hacked on October 29.

"This illegally accessed user information also includes name, phone number, email and mailing address, encrypted password and some credit card numbers," said a Lazada spokesman, as quoted by Reuters, Monday, November 2.

Alibaba's shopping platform explained that the hacked information was taken from the database of online grocery shopping stalls, RedMart. As a result, a number of personal information such as names, telephone numbers, e-mails, addresses, passwords, and credit card numbers of RedMart users were successfully accessed illegally by hackers.

Through a written statement, this Singapore-based e-commerce has blocked access to the database. In addition, Lazada is also committed to protecting customer data, which has so far been unaffected from hacker attacks.

Lazada claims that the data taken by hackers is outdated data that has not been updated for 18 months, or since last March 2019. Lazada user data in the Southeast Asia region itself is certain to be safe, and not affected by this data theft.

"This data was used in the previous RedMart application and website, which is no longer used. As a result, Lazada customer data in Southeast Asia is not affected by this incident," he added.

Lazada said that the current Lazada user account and password are protected with encryption. All users have been logged out, and asked to change their passwords.
