JAKARTA - TikTok is a Chinese social network and music video platform launched in September 2016 by Zhang Yiming. TikTok allows you to create your own short videos.

Like many other popular social media apps, TikTok has added a Stories feature to its app experience. If you are a new user or want to use TikTok's Stories feature, check out the following tutorial.

What is a TikTok Story?

In March 2022, TikTok released its Stories feature, it's the same feature you'd see on other social media apps, such as Snapchat, Instagram, and Facebook. Just like how it works on other platforms, TikTok allows viewers to view Stories for 24 hours.

These stories appear on Pages For You just like regular TikTok videos. You can also like Stories and leave public comments. The difference with other platforms is, you can usually only reply to the person who posted the story.

In addition to appearing on Pages For You, you can also find them by tapping a user's profile picture. If someone has posted a Story to TikTok, they will have a light blue circle wrapped around their profile picture.

How to Post a TikTok Story

If you want to add something to your TikTok Story, here's how:

Make sure you have the latest TikTok update installed on your device. If not, head over to the Google Play Store or Apple Store. Go to your profile page. You will see a blue circle with a white plus sign next to your profile picture. Tap the blue circle. At first glance the screen used to record TikTok Stories looks the same as the screen you see when posting a regular TikTok video, but since you clicked on the blue circle to add a story, you'll see the "Speed" option selected at the bottom of the screen. You can also switch between "Photos" and "Videos" depending on what content you want to post to your Stories. Take a photo or video, or upload something from your camera roll, and add the desired effects and/or sounds. Post your Stories. Once you're ready to post your Story, you'll see a white Post to Story button. You must click this button to post your content to your TikTok Stories. The regular "Post" button will direct you to post content to your TikTok account like a regular post, not just your Stories. A blue ring will wrap around your profile picture once your Story has been successfully uploaded.

Unlike Stories on other platforms, the like, view, or comment buttons on TikTok are all public. When you click on your profile picture, your Story will appear. You'll notice that you can see how many people have viewed your Story in the bottom left corner, and each time someone interacted with your video.
