JAKARTA - The transition to sustainable energy in the Science 20 (S20) program which is part of a series of activities for the G20 Presidency in 2022 under the spotlight of the Indonesian Academy of Sciences (AIPI).

"The energy transition is not only about changing technology from the use of fossil fuels to renewable energy, but also related to social, economic and environmental aspects," said AIPI Chair and S20 Chair Satryo S Brodjonegoro in a written statement quoted by Antara, Saturday, February 19.

Satryo said that to measure how effective the energy transition process is, all aspects including social, economic and environmental aspects must be taken into account properly.

According to him, cooperation, collaboration, and synergy are needed from stakeholders who have a strategic role in the energy transition in Indonesia.

The transition to sustainable green energy is one of the G20 2022 topics. With the theme Recover Together, Recover Stronger, Indonesia's position as the host of the G20 is important to jointly encourage a sustainable green energy transition.

Previously, the Government of Indonesia raised three priority issues through the G20 Energy Transition forum in the Energy Transitions Working Group (ETWG) format to encourage the acceleration of the global energy transition from fossil fuels to green energy.

"The energy transition pillar will raise three priority issues, namely access, technology and data collection," said Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Arifin Tasrif at the launch of the G20 Energy Transition forum which was monitored in Jakarta, Thursday (10/2).

The Indonesian government hopes that the three priority issues can provide more concrete G20 results in order to strengthen a sustainable global energy system, as well as a just transition in the context of sustainable recovery.
